When we first started All You Can Arcade, it was a bit on faith. We were convinced that individuals would want to let arcade games by the month, but truth be told, we had no idea how to operate on them. Before we knew it our launch was a month off and we had managed to accumulate about 100 matches, but only 10 of those worked!
All of our monitors would exhibit a scrambled picture on the screen. It was super frustrating since we had no idea how to fix it. We almost missed our launch, but we finally clued in on what was causing our probablem once we learned about monitor sync 101 and recognized that they sometimes have to be hooked up differently depending on the game. On this day, we must have turned at least 20 matches, that we had put a good deal of hard work into, but had been missing this final piece of the puzzle so as to have the ability to play them. This very small chunk of knowledge, gave us the games we all had to begin and was sufficient to keep us motivated to keep learning how to fix issues.
Five decades later, I still spend more time researching arcade fix, I spent researching in school and the instruction proceeds to repay.
For the last few years, we've experienced a mean bug that's crept into our fleet. When we measured the voltage running the games, we'd always observe a 0.2 to 0.5 drop from the 5V voltage and couldn't really figure out why the PCB board seemed to suck up power.
To solve the symptom, we'd boost the power supply to operate hot and that would be good for the following 3 to six weeks until the electricity supplies would burn out. After running into this mystery a couple of times, we started to put the games into deep storage until we can figure out why they all kept failing. Since we presumed, it was being caused by poor circuit boards hoping to draw too much power, we overlooked something much more evident.
After cleansing the chips, it might sometimes assist, but this insect was able to throw at 20 of our matches. Well now our Mortal Kombat 2 began to display exactly the same symptoms and quite honestly if we pull this one by the fleet, our customers will riot, so I sat down to get to the origin of the event of the fall in voltage.
To do this I took my voltage meter, then measured the power in the power supply and then started spreading the 5V line and measuring wherever I could touch wire. When I measured the power before it went into the edge connector, I saw the voltage had dropped. I suspected the connector between the cable and the power source. As soon as I crimped on the end of the lineup to put on a new one, I immediately noticed exactly what my problem was.
We love getting a fantastic deal and I would be happy to bet you a quarter, which you can't find a better bargain on the jamma harnesses that we buy. Unfortunately, it seems like we may have gotten exactly what we paid for them.
That's a whole lot of metal to run a small amount of voltage. It's a part of why I never suspected it was our offender.
As soon as you start this up however, you can see that from the exterior arcade.9d vr it seems 18 gauge, but on the inside it's short quite a bit of metal. The solution was simple, run a thicker cable in the power source to the harness and Voila! Mortal Kombat 2 back up and running, just in time for our free play arcade at the Jack of All Trade series this weekend.
While this easy bug should have been seen earlier and has caused us a lot of headaches, it's also incredibly exciting to figure out the source of our problem and to understand that with hardly any work, we have another 20 amazing games back on our website. Learning to correct arcade games hasn't been simple and your education never really ends, but each time you solve a puzzle, the following game gets easier and easier to fix.
Hopefully, other men and women who have run into similar problem, can save the exact same aggravation by A.) double assessing the wire you're using when you can not receive your voltage to journey cleanly from the power source to your circuit boards and B.) paying just slightly more better quality jamma harnesses.
